Richfield enjoys a strategically convenient location adjacent to South Minneapolis on its northern border, the Mall of America next to its southeast corner, and the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport on the east side. The major freeways that surround and transect the city include Interstate 35, Interstate 494, Crosstown 62, and Highway 77 (Cedar Avenue,) making this an ideal location for commercial interests as well.

Richfield Minnesota began as an agriculture based community named for its fertile farmland. Major residential development did not occur until the 1950’s and 1960’s, as housing sprang up to accommodate the large number of post-war baby boomers. The 2000 US Census measured the population count at 4,439.

Richfield is also home to some significant retail and commercial enterprises, and is headquarters to Best Buy, the world’s largest retailer of electronic products. A number of other large companies conduct retail operations here as well.

Most of these are ramblers or 1.5 story homes with three bedrooms on one level, hardwood floors, one or two stall detached garages, and large lots with mature trees.
