Oil Polyurethane Dry Times Richfield

by admin on August 25, 2008

Oil Based polyurethane takes a while to dry. Although my company can still do a hardwood floor sanding job in Richfield in about 2-3 days, using oil based poly is a little more inconvenient. The first coat we use after we sanded and cleaned the floor is a universal sanding sealer. The sealer will seal the pores in the wood to help the boards from moving with a change in moisture content in the woods. This can help reduce the chances of panelization. Also, it deepens the color and look of the wood. It will give the wood light amber tones. Lastly, it drys in only 45 minutes, so I can come back and put the second coat down the same dry. The second and third coat will be a oil based poly. I like using oil because it really gives the wood a nice deep color. By adding depth to the wood it gives it a lot of character, warms of the environment in the house and brings out the grains in the wood. The first coat of oil usually takes about 8-12 hours to dry, but can change with different temperatures and humidity levels. The last coat of oil adds an extra layer of protection and gives the floor a nice thick look. I really like using oil based finish on Richfield hardwood floors, it brings out the oak grains and everybody seems to like the finally look.
