The neighborhood Longfellow in Minneapolis is a great place to live. It is close to the Mississippi River, that has beautiful views of downtown Minneapolis at night. Also, it is close to East Lake Street, which has a number of local stores for automotive, restaurants and bars. Longfellow also has a lot of nice homes with hardwood floors. Most have 2 1/4 inch maple flooring, which was popular around the beginning of the 20th century. One thing about the older houses in Longfellow neighborhood is they have radiators. If you don’t have the right equipment, sanding under the radiators can be difficult. The key is to have a radiator sander. A radiator sander is has neck that is about 12 inches long that is low to the ground. It has a 3-6 inch disc that spins for the sand paper. With this piece of equipment you can get right under the radiator and sand off the finish. Then after you sand off the finish, use a higher grit paper to smooth out the wood. The last step is to coat the floor with an oil or water based finish. My company does a lot of floor sanding work in the Longfellow neighborhood. I think over the last year we’ve done 12-15 homes. If your looking at your hardwood floors and thinking about getting them refinished, count the number of radiators, most contractors charge more for them. Or you can call me and I can give you a free quote on your Longfellow hardwood floors.
