How Do I Sand My Hardwood Floors? Floor Sanding in Minneapolis

by admin on February 28, 2009

Are you up to the task?  If you are thinking about refinishing your hardwood floors yourself, then your in for some hardwork.  Anybody can do it, but it just take time, a lot of energy, and making sure you don’t screw them up.  First you will need to rent a drum floor sander and a floor sanding edger at Home Depot or your local hardware store.  You should look for a floor sander that is made be Clarke. Second, you will need to buy sanding paper.  If you have an older home built before 1990, then you will probably want to get 24 grits, 36, 60, and 100 grit paper.  Get a couple of each for the drum and 4-7 of each for the edger.  One sanding paper on a drum sander will ususally get you about 450 square feet, and the edger paper will ususally get you about 20-30 linear feet.  Third you will need to rent a 16 inch buffer and buy a 120 grit sanding screen for the buffer, it is about $9.  Fourth you will want to get a 5 gallon pale of oil based finish. I would choose a satin finish.  Now what do you do that you have all this equipment?  Well, start sanding!  Just kidding, if you need more instruction give me a call.  I would love to help you out.
