South Minneapolis Real Estate
Minneapolis is called the “City of Lakes” for good reasons. As an adult, you still come back here to rollerblade along the parkways, canoe on Lake of the Isles, or to rent a boat on Lake Calhoun. Maybe you take your kids for trolley rides at Harriet. Many of us still bike the 50 mile Minneapolis Grand Rounds along streets that are so thoroughly covered by canopies of hardwood trees that they look like green tunnels. In fact, If you grew up here, you may remember your Dad taking you crappie fishing from the Lake Nokomis bridge. You probably enjoyed family picnics at Minnehaha Falls. Perhaps you wandered off by yourself down the creek and went fishing from sandbars on the Mississippi. More than likely, you went for spring bike rides down the Minnehaha Parkway to enjoy the smell of all of those flowering crabapple trees.

South Minneapolis probably has more parks per square inch than any other part of the Twin Cities. You can literally follow the park trails all day long, unless you want to stop at one of those sidewalk cafes and coffee shops along the way. If you moved away to the suburbs, you probably miss walking on real sidewalks instead of in the street! There are plenty of reasons for buying a home here, and they all add to the quality of life that supports South Minneapolis real estate value.
What’s your reason for falling in love with South Minneapolis?
For my suburban Twin Cities REALTOR friends, it’s the summers! Some of them drive all the way from Shakopee just to ride their bikes along the Mississippi River, down the Minnehaha Parkway along the creek, around Lake Nokomis, Calhoun, Harriet, and Lake of the Isles. They may stop to gawk at some of the upscale Minneapolis homes and mansions that grace the lakeside views. A stop at the popcorn shop or a “Juicy Lucy” at Matt’s on Cedar Avenue tops off a perfect summer day. They go home asking “Why can’t it always be summer?”
Convenient Location
A home in South Minneapolis means you will enjoy a convenient location between the Mall of America and MSP to your south, and the downtown area to your north. Major highways that surround South Minneapolis provide an excellent infrastructure that makes it easy to commute anywhere in the Twin Cities. The comprehensive bus service (Metro Transit) and a new light rail (LRT) system that extends from the Mall of America to the Target Center both help to ease traffic and keep commute times low. Keep in mind that Minneapolis is the only major economic hub between Chicago and Seattle, so it’s a great place for your business as well.
Cultural Mecca
It’s no secret that Minneapolis is a cultural mecca and offers professional sports venues. If you own a home in South Minneapolis, you will always have plenty of entertainment opportunities, including the Guthrie, numerous smaller stage theaters, the Walker Art Center, the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center, and a host of other attractions.
High Quality of Life
Minneapolis is nationally known for its high quality of life, clean environment, public safety, a diverse and vibrant business sector, and its affordable housing options. In fact, you won’t go wrong purchasing a home in any Minneapolis neighborhood.
